TEXT 1

One morning, one of the witch’s friends came over to visit. When she looked around the room, she said ,”Your house is ugly. My house is more beautiful than yours, and the walls are brighter.” The witch was very angry when she heard this and she shouted, “Get out of my house! And don’t ever come back here!”
            After her friend left, the witch looked around her house and she said to herself, ”My friend was right. My house looks ugly and the paint is faded. I have to repaint it.” Then she went to the shop and bought a can of paint.
            After lunch she started to paint, and she worked very carefully. In the afternoon she finished the lower part of her house. When she wanted to start painting the upper part she found out that she couldn’t reach it. Then she got an idea,” I will use my magic broom!” She shouted, ”Broom, oh my broom, turn into a paint brush and paint my walls!”
            Suddenly the broom turned into a paint brush and started to paint the upper walls. It worked very fast, in ten minutes all the minutes all the jobs all was done. The witch was very happy.

TEXT 2
Once there was an Indian who had a pet fish named Tommy, which he kept in a barrel.
            But the fish go pretty big and the Indian had to change the water a good deal to keep him alive. He was too lazy to do that, so he thought he would teach the fish to live out of water.
            He began by taking Tommy out of barrel for a view minutes at a time, pretty often, and then he took him out more often and kept him out longer. After sometime Tommy could stay out a good while if he was in some wet grass.
            Then the Indian found he could leave him in the wet grass all night and pretty soon that fish could live in the shade whether the grass was wet or not. By the time we had got pretty tame, too and he used to follow the Indian around a good deal. When the Indian went out to dig worms to eat, Tommy went along too and got some for himself. The Indian thought of everything for that fish, until Tommy didn’t need any water at all. He could go anywhere down a dusty road and stay all day out in the hot sun.
            So, people wanted to buy Tommy, but the Indian said he wouldn’t sell a fish like that for any amount of money. You’d see him coming to town with Tommy following along the road behind, just like a dog, only of course he traveled a good deal like a snake, and almost as fast.
            Well it was really sad the way that Indian lost his fish and it was unusual, too. He went to town one day with Tommy coming along behind, as usual. There was a bridge in the road and the Indian came to it. He saw there was a hole in it, but he went over it without thinking. A little later he looked around for Tommy but he couldn’t find him. He went back away and called, but he still couldn’t see any sign of his pet.
            Finally he came to the bridge and saw the hole, and he thought right away that maybe his fish had fallen in there. So he went to the hole and looked down, and sure enough, there was Tommy, floating on the water, bottom-side up. He’d fallen through that hole into the river and drowned.

            One day Mosquitoes was talking to Iguana, telling about his vacation, about every minute of his vacation. Mosquito would not let Iguana say one word. Iguana was so annoyed that he walked away, leaving Mosquito still talking. Iguana grumbled and waved her tail.
            She was still grumbling when she passed her friend’s snake and forgot all about saying hello. Snake was feeling hurt. He felt so sad that he slithered down a rabbit’s hole.
            “Help!” yelled rabbit as she scurried (=lari cepat) out hole, terrified of snake.
            “What’s wrong?” cawed Crow as he saw Rabbit racing. Danger must be near. “Run for your lives!” cawed Crow.
            Monkey heard Crow’s warning and took off through the treetops, leaping branch to branch. When monkey landed on the owl’s branch, high up in leafy tree, Owl’s nest tipped of the branch and fell to the ground, breaking Owl’s egg. The owl was heartbroken, so much that she didn’t shoot for the sun to come up.
            The whole jungle was mad at mosquito. Finally Owl hooted for the sun to come up and when it did, Mosquito lost his voice. All he could so was buzzing in everyone’s ears, “Zzzzz is everyone still mad at me.

THE SHEPHERD BOY
There was once a young shepherd boy who tended his sheep at the foot of a mountain near a dark forest. It was rather lonely for him day so thought upon a plan which he could get a little company and some excitement. He rim died down toward the village calling out, ‘Wolf, wolf” and the villagers came out to meet him and some of them stopped with him for a considerable time. This pleased the boy so much that a few days afterward he tried the same trick, and again the villagers helped him. But shortly after this a wolf actually did come out from the forest, and began to worry the sheep, and boy of course cried out, “Wolf, wolf,” even louder than before. But this time the villagers who had been fooled twice before, thought the boy was again deceiving them, and nobody stirred to come to help him. The wolf made good meals of the boy’s flock, and when the boy complained, the wise man of the village said, ‘A LIAR WILL NOT BE BELIEVED EVEN WHEN HE SPEAKS THE TRUTH”

Once, a cap seller was passing through a jungle. He was dead tired and needed to rest. Then, he stopped and spread a cloth under a tree. He placed his bag full of caps near him and lay down with his cap on his head.
            The cap seller had a sound sleep for one hour. When he got up, the first thing he did was to look into his bag. He was startled when he found all his caps were not there. He was wondering where they could have gone. Indeed, he was greatly puzzled.
            When he looked up the sky, he was very surprised to see monkeys sitting on the branches of a tree, each wearing a cap on his head. They had evidently done it to imitate him.
            He decided to get his caps back by making a humble request to the monkeys. In return, the monkeys only made faces of him. When he began to make gestures, even when he raised his fist towards them to threaten them, they also imitated him.
At last he hit upon a clever idea. “ Monkeys are a great imitators,” he thought. So he took off his own cap and threw it down on the ground. As he had expected, all the monkeys took off the caps and threw them down on the ground. Quickly he stood up and collected the caps, put them back into his bag and went away.

            So the young man removed the cork, and a cloud of smoke emerged and grew into a frightening giant.
            “ I am a genie,” said the giant, “ I was imprisoned in the bottle by magician. But now that I am freed prepare to meet your end !”
            “ Wait a minute,” said the young man. “ I don’t believe one word you have said. A giant of your size could not have really come out of the little bottle. You could never get into it.”
            “ Of course I can,” said the genie, “ I’ll prove it to you.” As soon as the genie returned to the bottle, the young man replaced the cork. The next time, in order to get free, the spirit had to make a bargain with the young man, not only would it refrain from killing him, but it had also to give him a dagger which turned into gold everything it touched, and healed all the wounds. And afterwards, thanks to that magic dagger, the young man became a rich man.

TEXT 8

Once, three fish lived in a pond. One evening, some fishermen passed by the pond and saw the fish. “ This pond is full of fish”, they told each other excitedly. “ We have never fished here before. We must come back tomorrow morning with our nets and catch these fish !” so saying, the fishermen left.
            When the eldest of the three fish heard this, he was troubled. He called the other fish together and said, “ Did you hear what the fishermen said ? We must leave this pond at once. TEXT 9
Once up on a time there was a poor widow who had an only son named Jack. They were so poor that they didn’t have anything except a cow. When the cow had grown up too old, his mother sent Jack to the market to sell it. On his way to the market, Jack met a butcher who had some beautiful beans in his hand. The butcher told the boy that the beans were of great value and persuaded the silly lad to sell the cow for the beans.
            Jack bought them happily. When he told his mother about this, his mother become so angry then she threw the beans out of the window.

But the dogs did not give up – they ran after him, growling and snarling and barking even more loudly.
            The jackal did not know what to do. He did not dare to shop, and he knew he could not run for much longer. Suddenly he saw the wall of a courtyard before him. Without waiting to think he jumped over the wall, and straight into a large pot of indigo dye ! The dye had been left there by a dyer, all ready to be used in the morning. The jackal was now dyed indigo colour !

Why do you do everything the man tells you ?” The buffalo answered, “ Oh, the man is very intelligent. “ The tiger asked, “ Can you tell me how intelligent he is ?”  “ No, I can’t tell you,” said the buffalo, “ But you can ask him.”
            So, the next day the tiger said to the man, “ Can I see your intelligence ?” But the man answered, “ It’s at home.”  “ Can you go and get it ?” asked the tiger. “ Yes,” said the man, “ But I’m afraid you will kill my buffalo when I am away. Can I tie you to a tree ?”
            After the man tied the tiger to a tree, he didn’t go home to get his intelligence. He took his plough and hit the tiger. Then he said, “Now you know about my intelligence even you haven’t seen it.”
